From waste to recyclable material: how SUPASO transforms waste paper
From waste to recyclable material: the journey of our most important raw material begins in the waste paper container. But what many consider waste is the beginning of sustainable innovation for us at SUPASO. At our production facility in Hartberg, we transform recycled paper into high-performance insulating packaging - without any polystyrene, without any compromises. This article provides an insight into our innovative recycling process and shows how we create real added value from waste paper. ♻️
A look behind the scenes of a sustainable packaging miracle
What actually happens to your old cardboard when you put it in the recycling bin? At SUPASO, this is where the journey of an impressive raw material cycle begins. Because we transform discarded paper into high-performance, sustainable insulating packaging - for fresh food, sensitive medicines or high-quality pet food.
The raw material: local waste paper
We deliberately use regional waste paper sources to keep transportation routes short and reduce CO₂ emissions. The material is delivered to us in Hartberg, Austria - often directly from nearby paper recyclers or industrial partners. We pay attention to quality: not all paper is suitable for further processing into insulation material. Our deliveries are therefore randomly checked.
Shredding: Roughly shredded, finely processed
In our production plant, the collected waste paper undergoes a multi-stage treatment process. First, it is mechanically shredded and then dedusted using special machines. This is because dust particles do not insulate and we want only the highest quality cellulose fibers to end up in our products. Cleaning is carried out by a state-of-the-art filter system that effectively removes unwanted residues.
Shaping: from fiber to shape
The cleaned fibers are then compacted and shaped. Depending on the application, this creates our various types of packaging: From the flexible Ecobag to the high-performance Ecoliner. Tailor-made tools and press moulds are used to create precise, customizable shapes for our customers in the food, pharmaceutical and pet food industries.
The sheathing: robust kraft paper for the finishing touches
To protect our insulating elements, we use a specially developed outer shell made of kraft paper. It is not only robust and friction-resistant, but also optimally recyclable. A real natural talent with technical sophistication.
The result: 100% recyclable, climate-neutral packaging
The end result is insulating packaging with character: made from 99% recycled waste paper, certified climate-neutral and with excellent insulating performance. This turns what is supposed to be waste into a valuable raw material with a future.
Why this is important
Our recycling process not only saves resources, but also creates a tangible alternative to polystyrene and plastic. Our packaging can be returned to the waste paper cycle after use, without a guilty conscience.
